I’m unable to convert decimals into longitude and latitude in the new Quick experience. I’ve read on here that if you go back to the legacy experience you can do this. However, I have already published my dataset so am not able to do that. I tried to recreate the dataset in the legacy experience but it contains multiple joins to other published datasets and so I am not able to use it without a lot of work to replace them all. When will the function to change to this type of column type be available in the new experience?
Hi @sorchas and welcome back to the Quick Community!
Geospatial data type is supported (including longitude/latitude) and was actually added to the new data preparation experience back in May 2026, so you don’t need to revert to legacy at all. The catch is that the option is hidden in a non-obvious spot. You need to switch from the Transform tab to the Output tab when editing your dataset, and you’ll find the geospatial type options there. I would refer to this past community post showing where to find it: Geospatial on new datasets? Launched May 2026?
One thing to note is the geospatial feature in the new data prep experience is not available in every AWS region yet, so that may be the reason if you do not see this capability in your account.
Hope this helps!
Hi,
We see the recent questions on the feature discoverability for Geospatial. We just updated the documentation to explicitly guide users: Features not supported in the new data preparation experience - Amazon Quick
Geospatial is not part of the regular data types and further transformations are not applied on them. They hence need to be configured in the Output tab.

Hi @sorchas,
Just checking back in since we haven’t heard from you in a bit. I wanted to see if the guidance shared earlier helped resolve your question, or if you found a solution in the meantime.
If you still have any additional questions related to your initial post, feel free to share them. Otherwise, any update you’re able to provide within the next 3 business days would be helpful for the community.
Thank you
