Change Field Aggregation in Charts

Hello,

Is it possible to change the aggregation of the fields in a chart directly from the dashboard, similar to the Customize Panel available for tables and pivot tables? If so, what needs to be configured in the Analysis to enable this functionality?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Teresa

Hi @01267ts,

The short answer is no, that on-dashboard aggregation change isn’t available for charts. Reader customization, which is where the “Change aggregations” option lives, is supported for tables and pivot tables only. Other visual types like bar charts, line charts, and KPIs don’t support reader-level customization at this time, so there isn’t a setting in the Analysis that enables it for a chart. This is documented here: Customizing tables and pivot tables in Amazon Quick Sight - Amazon Quick .

If you want readers to be able to switch the aggregation on a chart, the usual way to approximate it is to build it yourself in the Analysis level using a parameter and a control. You create a parameter for the aggregation choice (for example; Sum, Average, Count), add a drop down control bound to it, and then drive the measure through a calculated field that returns the selected aggregation based on the parameter value. The reader then picks the aggregation from the control and the chart updates. It isn’t the same as the Customize panel, but it gives readers that interactivity on a chart.

Hope this helps!
