How can I hide seconds from a DateTime parameter picker when Time Granularity is set to Minute?

Hi Community Members,

We have DateTime parameters configured with Time Granularity = Minute. The displayed format is YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm A, however the QuickSight date picker still shows a seconds field (hh:mm:ss) and allows users to select seconds.

While the selected value is displayed in minute precision, the native DateTime picker still shows a seconds field (hh:mm:ss), for example 11:59:59 PM

Requirement:

  • Display only hours and minutes (hh:mm)
  • Hide seconds completely from the DateTime picker Selection(UI)
  • Example: 12:00 AM through 11:59 PM

Is there a supported configuration to remove the seconds selector from the native DateTime parameter control?

If not, is there a recommended workaround or is this currently a product limitation / feature request?

Hi @Peddanna_D and welcome to the Quick Community!

You’re seeing the right thing, unfortunately. Even with Time Granularity set to ‘Minute,’ the picker still shows that seconds field and from what I can tell there is no way to hide it. The granularity controls how the value gets stored (seconds get truncated to :00 with Minute), but the picker widget itself doesn’t respect that and always shows hh:mm:ss.

I know for a control you can edit the data format but it is only cosmetic for the control bar display, so your YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm A format works fine for what the user sees after they pick a value. It just can’t do anything about the picker popup itself. Moreover, I think the system already adapts the default format placeholder in the “Create new parameter” dialog based on your granularity choice (e.g. YYYY/MM/DD HH:mm for Minute, no seconds), so the awareness is there, it just doesn’t carry over to the picker.

At this time, I cannot think of a potential workaround for this so I would classify it as a limitation. The ‘feature-request’ tag is already attached to this post which will help increase visibility to the Quick Team!
