"Parent SPICE table is not ready to use for ingestion" error when importing asset bundle

Hello,

We we’re trying to import an asset bundle with multiple datasets and we’re receiving the following error:

Parent SPICE table is not ready to use for ingestion. Please verify that parent table specified for the dataset arn:aws:quicksight:#####:######:dataset/########### has completed ingestion successfully.

The dataset named in the above error (dataset A) is joined with another (dataset B) and both datasets are using SPICE. Manually creating dataset A and then dataset B works fine, but how can we import all assets in the bundle with no manual steps? This will be part of a CDK pipeline so all steps must be automated.

Hey @IanAtVolvo

This might be a bug but there could be a way around this. What are the data sources for these datasets? If they are the same you could try to doing CustomSQL to create the join and then use the CustomSQL dataset in your asset bundle job.

Another potential workaround could be swapping which dataset is the parent dataset for the join and then retrying the asset bundle jobs.

This is not resolved. Here is the question awaiting an answer.

Hi @IanAtVolvo

I would recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details so that we can help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case. If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf. Hope this helps!
